What to do in Stanthorpe – Climb The Pyramids at Girraween National Park
What to do when on the Granite Belt, Stanthorpe when the weather is beautiful – Of the things to do in Stanthorpe a visit to one of our many National Parks is a must of course. Our son Tom, recently took his daughter Indi up The Pyramid at Girraween National Park. The weather was beautiful on this Winter’s day perfect for her first sole ascent. Indi who was only 5 years old, hiked one of the most popular walking trails which led her to conquer the climb to the top of the Pyramid at Girraween National Park.
What to do in Girraween National Park
- The Pyramids is one of the most popular walks at the park and you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the park when you reach the summit. You can catch your breath while sitting under Balancing Rock or it makes for a great photo or selfie opportunity. Allow about 45mins to the top from the car park, it’s a 3.6km round trip. It is recommended that you have a good level of fitness and stamina to climb the steep section of exposed rock near the summit. If you don’t feel like ascending the The Pyramids then the short walk to Granite Arch may be more your style.
- You could spend days exploring the walking trails at Girraween Natinal Park with the choice of up to a dozen different walks. There are walks designed to suit different levels of ability and stamina. If you don’t feel like walking then simply be brave and take a dip in the beautiful rock pools or natural water slides downstream from the main parking areas. Be sure to enter carefully though like all natural waterways due to possible submerged rocks or logs. But be mindful the temperature of the water is bound to be icy!
- The flora in very unique and is home to many species of wildflower. Spring is the best time to see magnificent displays.
